Abstract

137,270. Robeson, W. B. Dec. 26, 1918, [Convention date]. Cylinders, pipes for.-A device for admitting auxiliary air to the induction pipe 1 between the carburettor and the manifold 2 comprises a handcontrolled inlet valve 21 communicating with a member 7 mounted between end flanges 5, 6 on the portions 3, 4 of the induction pipe, and provided with a central aperture 8 partly surrounded by a fine mesh screen 15 through which the air passes in fine streams. The screen is mounted in a groove 11 which is preferably deepest at the air inlet 12, and an imperforate deflector 16 is secured to the screen. The inlet valve 21 is provided with a pipe 19 leading from a sleeve 19<1> secured over the manifold 2 or other part heated by the engine, the air drawn in being warmed in passing between the sleeve and the heated part.
