Abstract

539,052. Extra-air valves. MURRAY, J. S., MURRAY, J., and RITCHIE, T. M. May 21, 1940, No. 8995. [Class 7 (ii)] A valve actuated together with the throttle valve for admitting extra air comprises a sleeve 1 formed with a port 5 of boot-shaped contour ' co-operating with a rectangular port 6 in the housing leading by means of a tubular branch 7 to an apertured flange 8 adapted to be clamped between the carburetter and induction pipe. The valve is fitted with an arm 10 connected to the throttle-actuating mechanism, and with a rotatable cap 11 having lugs 12 which open more or less air inlets 13 at the end of the valve 1. In a modification, the air inlet may be regulated by an open-ended second sleeve angularly adjustable within the valve 1 and provided with a similar boot-shaped aperture.
