Abstract

Fluid-actuated valves. - A device for automatically admitting auxiliary air to the induction pipe of an internal-combustion engine in inverse proportion to the suction therein, comprises a tubular member 10 provided with air inlets 15 on which slides a spring-returned suction-actuated sleeve 18, The member 10 is screwed into the induction pipe between the throttle and the engine. Suction is transmitted to the interior of the sleeve 18 through a passage 21 and a perforation 22 in a rod 20 mounted in a partition 13 in the member 10. The rod 20 may extend through the end of the sleeve 18 and may be provided with an abutment 25, between which and the end of the sleeve a cushioning-spring 27 or the like may be provided. At small throttle openings, the sleeve 18 is drawn forward by the high suction and the air ports 15 are cut off; as the throttle is opened, the suction falls, and the ports 15 are gradually uncovered.
