Abstract
297,954. Lautour, F. de. Sept. 12 1927. Four-stroke-cycle engines; cylinders, pipes for. -A single beat valve C, Fig. 2, or the same port J, Fig. 4, in a sleeve valve controls the exhaust from and the admission of air to the cylinder. A passage E is in communication with the cylinder port, air flowing continuously through this passage, either being forced by a fan E or induced through the piping. As shown applied to a multi-cylinder engine with beat valves C, one fan supplies to all the cylinders, the valves being arranged eccentrically in the cylinder head. In a sleeve valve engine one duct N<1> or N<2> supplies adjacent cylinders; a block may be placed opposite the cylinder ports to deflect the gases into and out of the cylinders. The engine may work on the cycle set out in Specification 266,144. An auxiliary exhaust valve with separate exhaust passage may be provided.
