Abstract
292,913. Loewe, S. June 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A cathode is heated from the end by conduction from an indirectly-heated body such as a cylinder. As shown in Fig. 2, the cathode 2 is connected at each end with cylinders 4 heated by radiation and electron bombardment from an internal filament 8; or a single cylinder mav be connected to one end of the cathode. If alternating current is supplied to the cylinders 4 the rectified current may be used for the supply to one or more anodes and to the filament of one stage of an amplifier system. Mica shields 6 may be interposed to prevent electrons from passing from the filament 8 to the grid 2 and anode 3. In a modification the ends of the cathode are formed as helices heated by an internal filament. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in which extensions 8, 9 of the cathode 1 are heated by passage of current, and the resistances of the connections 13, 14 to one supply lead 10 are made of such value that no current passes through the filament. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
