Abstract

292,666. Cole, W. H. March 19, 1927. Coating.-In a process for rust-proofing iron, steel and other metals, the metals are placed in a sealed revolving container with the rust-proofing powder consisting of a mixture of emery, dry copper-zinc precipitate, tin, and aluminium, and heated first to 800‹ C. then at about 500‹ C. and finally at about 350‹ C. The zinc-copper precipitate is prepared by adding zinc dust to copper sulphate solution. The following may be added to the rust-proofing powder: ferrous chloride, finely-powdered cobaltous chloride, nickel sulphate, and antimony trichloride, and in addition or in lieu of these compounds some of the mixture 27 described in Specification 289,906. Sal ammoniac, borax, and naphthalene may also be added to the powder before use.
