Abstract

A balanced phosphating solution comprises zinc dihydrogen phosphate and anions of lactic acid or glycollic acid or both. The solution, which may be used for phosphating zinc, zinc alloy, iron, or iron alloy surfaces, may also comprise nitrate or chlorate anions and nickel or cobalt cations. The phosphate coating may be mixed with dilute chromic or phosphoric acid. Specification 493,365 is referred to.
