Abstract

1,247,504. Phosphating metal surfaces. PENNWALT CORP. April 3, 1970 [April 14, 1969], No.15974/70. Heading C7U. An iron, steel, zinc or aluminium surface is phosphated by contacting with an aqueous phosphating solution, rinsing with water then a chromating solution, the surface dried and then rinsed with de-ionized water. The phosphating solution may comprise 1À22% of 75% phosphonic acid, 0À25% zinc oxide, 0À32% sodium chlorate, 0À27% nickel nitrate, and 0À008% disodium arsenate. The chromate rinse may comprise 16À6 parts chromic acid, 16À6 parts chromium nitrate, and 66À8 parts water or chromic acid, water, and methyl alcohol or chromic acid and calcium carbonate.
