Abstract

1,153,668. Chemical conversion coatings on aluminium. ACHEM PRODUCTS Inc. Nov. 14, 1967 [Nov. 14, 1966], No.51702/67. Heading C7U. Tortuous aluminium objects i.e. objects having substantial hollows and/or cavities such as cans and assembled car radiators, are treated in an aqueous coating solution containing 0À1-1À9 g/l chromic acid (as CrO 3 ) 1-15 ml/1 phosphoric acid and 0À1-1À5 g/l HF either as the acid or a simple salt such as NaF and subsequently rinsed in ion free water such as distilled or deionized water. The objects may be sprayed with or immersed in the solution and an ultrasonic field having a frequency of 20Kcs may be applied to the solution during immersion. The dilute solutions used produce a colourless coating and also remove any flux remaining on the aluminium objects.
