Abstract

281,392. Wheeler, F. Cornelius-. Sept. 1, 1926. Bricks for gas-fire flues.- The flue is constructed from hollow units made of minimum widths by the use of a cementitous composition containing an aggregate of mineralized fibrous material such as is described in Specifications 220,677, 225,912, 236,450, 252,906, 259.635, 259,636, and 270,013, [all in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.]. The units are of storey-height with castellated sides or a set of units may be arranged in staggered relation to produce castellated sides to facilitate bonding with the adjacent walls of the building and when a set of units is used certain of the blocks have eccentric cavities to secure continuity of the flue. Adjacent blocks may be interlocked or keyed together by end grooves filled with cement grouting. The fireplace blocks F are of channel-shape. Communication between the floors is made by blocks R with raking cavities. If desired, a pair of cavities may be provided in each block for forming two sets of flues. Ventilating channels may also be arranged in the structure by providing blocks, which have, in addition to the main flue passage, end grooves as shown at L<2>. Figure 7, and such grooves are adapted to communicate with a room at ceiling level bv means of blocks having a cut-away part 8 as shown in Figure 8. If desired, openings may be provided in certain of the blocks for leading vitiated air directly into the main flue passage. The stack is terminated as shown in Figure 1 with blocks T, having gratings 6 on each side, and a coping stone 7. Specifications 253,721 and 279,585, [Class 20 (iv), Floors &c.], also are referred to. The Provisional Specification also refers to the use of the units described above as ventilating shafts.
