Abstract

591,067. Bricks. SUMMERFIELD, E. April 24, 1945, No. 10259. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XV] A block having rebates in the top surface and interfitting flanges on the bottom surface is provided at its ends with interfitting tongues and rebates extending between the horizontal flanges and rebates, and with one or more tongues which are longer than the remaining vertical tongues. The block b, Fig. 6, is provided on its upper surface with edge rebates 2 and on its bottom surface with corresponding flanges 1. The end faces comprise two short and two long tongues 6 and corresponding rebates 7 arranged so that juxtaposed blocks will interlock. The blocks may be hollow as at 11, and provided with vertical and horizontal grouting grooves and apertures 8, 14. The blocks are intended to be laid with mortar. In a modification, Fig. 10, a transverse recess d' adapted to receive a crossbeam for flooring &c. is made 'in the side of the block. Modifications are described in which half or all the top surface, or one end, is flat and provided with a groove to receive the rail or stile of a window frame. Fig. 18 shows a T-shaped block for connecting a partition wall to an outside wall. In other modifications, the blocks are formed with tongues and rebates at one vertical side, or as half blocks. Arcuate blocks and Z-shaped blocks are also described having the interfitting end and top formations. Further modifications are blocks having the interfitting features and also large recesses or apertures to adapt them for building chimney breasts and flues. The blocks may be used for miniature or toy building.
