Abstract

202,461. Cummings, C. L. June 23, 1922. Reinforced-blockwork girders. -Reinforced brick or blockwork lintels are formed of bricks which have side grooves 16, not communicating with the edges of the brick, and are also provided with holes 6 for the reception of the reinforcement. Stirrups 18 are placed in these side grooves to bind the reinforcement to the bricks and the whole is bound together with grouting. In some forms, the soffit of the lintel is cambered, the reinforcement holes being sufficiently large to allow of this setting. In other forms, some of the blocks are arranged with their lengths at right-angles to the lengths of adjoining bricks.
