277,978. Rohrbach Metall-Flugzeugbau, Ges. Sept. 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Aeroplanes; planes, construction of; propelling; floats, arrangement of.-A seaplane is constructed with wings tapering pronouncedly towards the tips, and with a boat shaped fuselage and lateral floats close thereto near the centre of gravity of the machine, the floats being designed to give a talking-off lift. The chord at the wing tips is approximately one quarter of that at the roots of the wing, and the horizontal and vertical tail surfaces also are given a pronounced taper. Three engines are mounted above the planes on struts c and the lateral floats are connected to the wings by struts m placed beneath the lateral engines, and to the fuselage by horizontal struts k. Alternatively the side floats may be connected solely to the fuselage or solely tu the wings. The keels of the fuselage and side floats are deeper than at the chines h, and the bottoms are shaped to deflect the water downwardly at the chines.
