Abstract
499,883. Seaplanes. COX, H. R., and COOMBES, L. P.' Aug. 3, 1937, No. 21325. [Class 4] A seaplane comprises a wing 1, Figs. 1 and 2, which is used for accommodation of load and support on the water and is formed with a nose 7, a keel 5 and chines 4. The trailing- edge portion of the central section is provided with a flap 2 which may be raised to form a step. The wings may form the lower wings of a biplane seaplane, the upper wing carrying the engines and the tail being supported by booms from the interplane struts. In the case of a monoplane seaplane, the engines are mounted on structures above the wings 1 and may be retractable to a position in which the airscrew axis is in line with the chord line of the wing. As shown in Fig. 4, the wing, 1 is swept back in plan from and lateral and longitudinal control is provided by rudders 8 and flaps 9. The wing tips 10 may be lowered to form floats.
