Gunnery calculators. - In apparatus for controlling the laying of ordnance, range-finders, searchlights, &c., in accordance with information transmitted from a distant control element, means are provided for superposing the correction for convergence or parallax upon the movement of the training indicator or transmitter. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a pinion A<1>, meshing with. a fixed rack A forming part of the distant control element or of the gun &c. mounting, is connected to gearing A<2> - - A'. The wheel A<4> has guides a<4> for a crosshead A with teeth a<5> engaging a pinion A<6> on a spindle a<6> which passes axially through the gears A', A<4> and is connected to a training transmitter A<7> or indicator A<8>. The wheel A <4>, through pinions a<4x> and b, actuates a wheel B coaxial with the wheel A<4> the gearing being so arranged that the wheel B makes one revolution more or less than the wheel A<4> during a complete turn of the controlling element. The wheel B is provided with guides for a screw B<2> and block B' having a pin b<1> for co-operation with the orosshead A<5>. The position of the pin b<1> is varied in accordance with the range by means of a handle C and gearing C<1> - - C<4> the pinion C<2> of which is connected to the planet wheels of a differential gear C<2x>, the sun wheels being connected to the pinion b and shaft c<2>. In a modified form, the position of the pin b' is controlled by a cam-grooved member and a synchronous electric motor, rotated in accordance with a definite increment of range per revolution, is provided to drive the shaft c<2> and differential gear. In another modification, the handle C may be mounted directly on the wheel B.
