Abstract
276,618. Albihn, H. F. Aug. 25, 1926, [Convention date]. Parachutes.-The parachute 1 is adapted to be released automatically or by the parachutist by means of cords 20, 19 which connect the aircraft and the parachutist respectively to the parts of a two-part bolt 17 securing the cover of an auxiliary parachute 11. The latter when released withdraws wires 15 securing the cover of the main parachute at its base and by means of a cord 12 withdraws the cover 3 and by a cnrd 13 the parachute. The bolt parts 17 are keyed together by a projection and recess &c. so as to move together when pulled, but to separate readily when withdrawn. The cords 19, 20 are guided by a ring &c. 27. The cord 13 may be adapted to break after releasing the main parachute; also the cord 20 is adapted to rupture if accidentally entangled with the parachutist. In a modification the cord 20 is adapted to withdraw the securing wires 15 and the cover 3. The folds of the cord 20 are retained in a pocket in the cover of the auxiliary parachute. The cover of the auxiliary parachute is automatically opened when released by means of elastic bands &c. The maximum breaking load of the opening line 13 when adapted to rupture should lie between 200 and 300 kg. weight. The container of the main parachute is split into two at the base and the halves are provided with rings through which the wire 15 passes to secure parts together. The container is also divided into compartments by a partition 4 and flaps 7 in which are housed the auxiliary parachute and the folds of the shorter part of the cord 12.
