Abstract
488,774. Parachutes. WILLING, M. S. Oct. 5, 1937, No. 26945. Convention date, Nov. 3,1936. [Class 4] A parachute is provided with a number of rigid annular members, or other members allowing free passage of air therethrough, temporarily positioned at spaced points in the interior of the canopy when the latter is collapsed and packed, the members being of less diameter than the canopy when the latter is distended, means being provided for positively and successively withdrawing these members from the mouth of the canopy when the latter is released for opening ; the members being entirely disconnected from the canopy when withdrawn from the latter. Light rigid rings 10, Figs. 1 and 4, are secured to the interior of the canopy by frangible threads 11, are interconnected by flexible means 12, and the lowermost ring is connected to a rope 14 by lines 13. Rope 14 may constitute the load line and have attached thereto rigging lines 15. The arrangement is such that line 14 becomes taut on launching before the rigging lines 15 do so, thus the rings are successively and positively broken loose from the interior of the canopy partially distending the to ensure rapid inflation thereof.
