Abstract

538,719. Parachutes: training devices. STRONG, J. H. Dec. 7, 1939, No. 31743. [Class 4] A device for training parachute jumpers comprises a tower 11 having a hoisting cable 13 connected to means for raising a parachute in extended condition, and means for releasing the parachute. The parachute is held in the extended or spread condition shown by rings 51 on the shrouds 32 passing over pivoted catches 52 on a ring 23. The catches are held in the raised position by the tension of the shrouds. The apex of the canopy is held by a catch 36 controlled by the parachutist. The catch 36 is mounted in a head suspended by the cable and having connections 26 with the ring 23. Means is provided for releasing the catch from the head if the head approaches a stop 42 on the tower.
