Abstract

722,442. Parachutes. GREGORY, J. March 31, 1953, [March 31, 1952], No. 8116/52. Class 4. A parachute includes a canopy with a central vent and a number of shroud lines extending along the seams of the gores, and provided with a rigid ring or anchorage member inside and of much smaller diameter than the vent, to which the shroud lines are attached, each to the nearest portion of the ring or anchorage member. As illustrated by Fig. 3, the central vent is defined by webbing 13 sewn to the canopy gores 10. Each shroud line 14 is stitched to the webbing 13, looped'round the ring 16, knotted to itself by two half hitches 20, and sewn to itself as at 17, preferably ending as at 18 short of the webbing. The ring or anchorage member may be metal. The vent may or may not be closed after manufacture: When the number of shroud lines is such that their loops round the ring 16 are close together, they may be bound or stitched together in pairs near the ring.
