Abstract

580,446. Safety devices for aircraft. MAZUREK, S. June 21, 1944, No. 6175. [Class 4] Means for escaping from an aircraft comprises a compartment 1 which may be detached from the fuselage and allowed to descend under the restraint of parachutes 20, the suspension lines 21 of the latter being attached to straps 23 connected to a gathering ring 18 at the upper end of a cable 17, to the lower end of which is attached a second gathering ring 16 carrying cables 15 attached to the top of the compartment 1. The compartment is normally suspended in an opening in the fuselage by a hook 8 supported om the top of the fuselage and engaging an eye 9 at the top of the compartment, release being effected by a rip cord 13 or by the pilot through remote control. Vertical guides 2A are provided at the sides of the safety compartment, engaged by rollers 2B supported from the inside of the fuselage opening. The compartment is watertight and is provided with end doors, and escape hatches as the top. A shock-absorbing base 7 is also fitted, together with a release device 19 for detaching the compartment from the parachutes on alighting on land or water.
