Abstract

281,881. Vickers, Ltd., and Lucas, O. D. Jan. 1, 1927. Parachutes. -- In a parachute provided with means for reducing excessive pressure thereon, a small auxiliary parchute is arranged in conjunction with the said means, for bringing said means into action during opening before the load is fully taken by the main parachute. An annular parachute A of the type set forth in Specification 199,909, has its outer and inner edges a, a<2> connected by ropes B, B' to rings d<1>, d, between which is an elastic cord D and a safety cord F. The auxiliary parachute E is attached to the ring d<1> by cords e, which are spaced by a plywood ring e<1>. When opening, the auxiliary parachute stretches the cord D before the main parachute opens so that the latter opens with its inner edge in a raised position. The load C, a flare or the like, or an aviator, is suspended from the ring d'. The other constructions described in Specification 199,909 may be similarly modified. Suitable dimensions are given.
