Abstract
497,289. Lines trailed from aircraft. TAYLOR, E. June 17, 1937, No. 16890. [Class 4] In order to suppress lashing about of a line, e.g. a pipeline trailed from an aircraft in flight the line is provided with a parachute-like drogue adapted to close when the line is hauled in one direction and to open upon movement in the opposite direction. As shown, a canopy 6 is attached by shroud lines 5 and crown lines 8 to the pipeline 1. A central vent 7 is provided. In order to avoid highstresses on the aircraft, the line may be led through a fairlead 10 and be provided with an enlarged portion 3A. Movement of the line in the direction of the arrow C causes the projection to engage a pivoted knife 13 which severs the line. In a modification the fairlead is replaced by a pulley.
