508,092. Parachutes. ROUSSELOT, M. Sept. 18, 1937, No. 25406. Void. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1936. [Class 4] [Also in Group VII] A parachute harness comprises one or more shockabsorbing devices. In the form shown, the shockabsorbing device is formed by folding the ends 30b of a belt 30 back on the main portion thereof, and securing them thereto by sewing threads which are adapted to be ruptured when the shroud lines 32 of the parachute exert a pull on the ends 30b, Fig. 13. In a modification, each end of the belt is slotted to form a wide and narrow portion, the former being secured to the remainder of the belt by only a few stitches so that a pull exerted on the ends of the belt is adapted to separate the wide and narrow portions. In another modification, the shock-absorbing device is detachably secured to the parachute belt, and is adapted to be torn longitudinally when a pull is exerted on the ends of the belt. The shock-absorbing devices may be provided on the shoulder straps of the harness.
