Abstract
337,251. Tricau, G. A. Dec. 3, 1928. [Convention date]. Parachutes.-A parachute container wherein a flexible lacing member is adapted to be broken either by a cable connection to the aircraft or by a device actuated by the parachutist is provided in addition with a. cord attached to the top of the parachute fabric and to the aircraft cable which breaks the cord after opening the parachute or the cord is broken by the parachutist when he actuates the device for breaking the lacing member. The aircraft cable connection d, Fig. 1, has a ring passed over a lacing cord c and attached to a rip cord l connected to the top of the parachute. The cord c is passed through slots in a sleeve i and through holes j<0>, Fig. 4, in a slotted plunger adapted to pull the cord c onto a knife i' when pulled by a Bowden cable e connected to a handle f. The rip cord l also is passed through inclined slots l<00>, j<00>, in the sleeve i and plunger j respectively so that the rip cord can either be pulled out by the cable d or pulled down on to the knife i<1> by the plunger j. A spring m normally holds the rip cord in its slot. Separate knives may be used for cutting the lacing and rip cord or two separately operated devices may be employed. Alternatively the cord c and rip cord may be broken instead of cut. The handle f is hinged to a part g on the parachutist's belt and is normally locked by a catch h released by pressing a part f<1>. A pilot parachute n is provided.
