Abstract

576,148. Parachutes. AVIOREX DREYFUS FRERES. April 23, 1941, No. 5266. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1939. [Class 4] . The position of a falling parachutist is stabilized, prior to the opening of his parachute, by an auxiliary parachute which may also be used for withdrawing the main parachute from its pack. The auxiliary parachute is ultimately detached from the harness. The auxiliary parachute is contained in a pocket 8 on one of the flaps of the main parachute pack and is released by a cable connected to a finger ring or is released automatically as the parachutist jumps. The auxiliary parachute is connected to straps 17 releasably connected to straps 18 on the harness, release being effected when pins 19 are withdrawn by cables 21 connected to the rip cord of the main parachute pack. The same cord may be used for effecting all these actions in successive stages. A cord 22 enables the released parachute to withdraw the canopy of the main parachute. The main parachute pack has a partition 25, Fig. 4, having one or more holes 27 through which the suspension cords 23 are passed so as to control frictionally the opening of the main parachute.
