Abstract

572,727. Cleats. AVIOREX DREYFUS FRERES. April 23, 1941, No. 5269. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1938. [Class 109] [Also in Group XXXIII] For absorbing the shock on opening of a parachute, a flexible member is caused to slide frictionally through a series of holes or slots in a plate interposed between the base of the suspension lines and the harness or belt of the parachutist. The flexible member may comprise a single strap 1, Fig. 2, threaded through a series of slots 2 in a plate 3, or a number of cables 2, Fig. 3, threaded through a series of holes in the plate. The edges of the holes or slots are rounded and the holes may be inclined in the directions the flexible member tends to take under load. A strap or cable 9 limits the amount of relative motion. Cooling fins may be provided on the plates 3.
