Refrigerating, absorption machines for. - A machine working on the reversing system but adapted for substantially continuous cooling has frequent short periods of generation and evaporation, so that during the generating periods warming of the insulated chamber cooled by the machine is minimized. The generator-absorber is of small capacity, while the condenser and evaporator are relatively large. The reversal is effected automatically, according to pressure or temperature, or by clockwork. In the arrangement shown, a generatorabsorber vessel 1 is heated by an electric element 2 and is provided with gills 3 for cooling by air. It connects with a condenser 4, also air cooled, and through a restriction, valve, or capillary tube 6 with the evaporator 5, the vapour being returned by a separate tube 11 fitted with a check valve 12. A manometer 7 connected with the vessel 1 has contacts 8, 9 for closing and of ening the circuit of the heating element 2 and of an electromagnet 16 adapted to change-over a damper 10 to divert the cooling-air around the vessel 1 or around the condenser 16. A fan 15 in a chimney 13 may be employed. The manometer may have selective contacts whereby the pressure at which reversal is effected may be varied. Where water cooling is employed the water supply to the generator-absorber and condenser is diverted. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also regulation of an expansion valve to vary the cooling effect. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
