Abstract
639,313. Refrigerating. HILL & CO., Inc., C. V. June 1, 1948, No. 14800. Convention date, June 3, 1947. [Class 29] For de-frosting a refrigerating system comprising a compressor 2, condenser 6, evaporator 12 and a re-heater 20, hot gas from the compressor passes through a byepass 22 controlled by a valve 24 direct to the evaporator and returns to the compressor through the re-heater 20 which evaporates condensed refrigerant and over which air is propelled by a fan 30. The air may receive heat from the compressor, the motor, and the condenser, the re-heater and the heat emitting parts being located in a trunking 28 through which the fan 30 drives the atmospheric air. The by-pass 22 may be in heat exchange with a drip tray 25. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown), the condenser and re-heater are formed as interleaved coils having common fins. When refrigerating, a fan draws cool air over the condenser-re-heater; when de-frosting, the fan is reversed to draw air over the motor &c. and pass it over the re-heater condenser. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the same coil 52 serves as the condenser and the re-heater, the change from one function to the other being effected by valves 24, 56, 60, 64 and 68, the fan 66 being reversed during the de-frosting period. Specification 630,580 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the re-heater is heated by a fluid pumped in a circuit through jackets around the compressor and the re-heater. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specifition as accepted.
