311,324. Universal Refrigerators, Ltd., (Assignees of Amundsen, I., and Staphansen, E.). May 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, absorption machines for.-In absorption machines working on the reversing system and comprising a generator-absorber 1 having a jacket 2 through which cooling-water and heating-medium pass alternately, the flow of cooling-water through the syphon 5 from the tank 4 to the jacket is started by the air pressure in a vessel 6 exposed to the heating-medium, e.g. steam, and communicating through a pipe 7 with a submerged bell 8 enclosing the mouth of the syphon. In the heating position shown, the water in the tank and the syphon rises to the level 11 while that in the bell reaches the level 12. When the vessel has been sufficiently heated the air pressure in the vessel depresses the water level in the bell and floods the syphon whereupon the water flows from the tank until the level therein falls below the mouth of the bell.
