Abstract
276,088. Boving, J. O. May 21, 1926. Refrigerating, absorption machines for.-The generatorabsorber and the evaporator of a reversing absorption apparatus of the rocking type are divided by partitions a', h<1> into compartments, which are connected by syphons a<2>, h<2> disposed over the partitions, so as to enable the rocking of the apparatus to be delayed until nearly the end of the generating and absorbing periods. During generation, the refrigerant passes through the perforated pipe c to the rectifier d and thence to the condenser c from which it flows through an axial pipe i to the compartment h<3> of the evaporator; from thence it is abruptly transferred to the compartment h<4> by the automatic flooding of the syphon h<2>, the transfer of the refrigerant resulting in the rocking of the apparatus from the generating to the absorbing position. At the end of the generating period, the syphon a<2> transfers the weak liquor in the generator from the compartment a<4> to the compartment a<3> so that the whole of the liquor is subjected to the bubbles of vapour returning from the evaporator during the cooling of the generatorabsorber. During absorption, the evaporator may be located either in a safe j or a brine tank q, and the vapour is absorbed by the weak liquor in the compartment a<3> of the generator-absorber until the flooding of the syphon a<2> results in the abrupt transfer of the liquor to the compartment a<4> and the rocking of the apparatus to the generating position. The generator is heated by an electric heater b, the current to which is interrupted by the rotation of a contact on a disc b<1> on the pivot of the apparatus, and the generator-absorber and condenser are cooled by water pipes l, g respectively. The water supply to the pipe l is controlled by a 3-way valve n which communicates with the outlet of the pipe g in the condenser, a drain pipe o and the inlet m to the pipe l. In a modification, two machines are mounted to turn about a common axis in such a manner that when one is in the generating position the other is in the absorbing position.
