Abstract

317,767. Normelli, W. B. Aug. 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, absorption systems for; cold accumulators; refrigerators, domestic.-Heat of condensation and absorption is recovered for useful purposes from a reversing system employing a solid absorbent. As shown, a generator-absorber 4 is located in a water or other liquid bath in the lower compartment of a tank and the condenser 6 in the upper compartment. The liquid in the lower compartment is heated electrically and the circuit is controlled by a thermostat 19, which also controls a valve in a pipe 20 providing communication between the compartments of the tank. Another communicating pipe 21 is provided. The compartments communicate only during the absorption period, the cool water descending to the lower compartment and the warm water rising to the upper, whence it may be withdrawn for use through a tap 22. Fresh cold water may be supplied through a pipe 16. If no warm water is used, a thermostat may be caused to open the tap 22 to run it off and to supply the fresh water. The evaporator 10 is arranged in an insulated compartment of a refrigerator and serves to cool a non-freezing liquid circulating by gravity to and from a cooling tank 12 in the storage space. Halide compounds of calcium and magnesium or activated carbon mav be used as absorbents and ammonia, amines, alcohols, ketones, mentanol, water and sulphur dioxide as refrigerants. . The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following subject-matter :-A continuous refrigerating effect is obtained by the use of two reversing machines working out of phase and each comprising an air-cooled generator-absorber 1, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), containing a solid absorbent, a condenser 10, and an evaporator 12, the refrigerating-effect being transferred from the evaporator to a cold accumulator 17 arranged in a casing 26 in the refrigerator by a condensible fluid in a closed system. The generator-absorbers are disposed in compartments 20 having damper-controlled air ports 21, 23. The damper 24 controlling the ports 23 is connected to electric heaters 3 and controlled by thermostats to cause the damper to move into a vertical position to initiate an absorption period in one of the generator-absorbers. When the damper is moved to close one of the ports 23 the electric circuit to the corresponding heater is automatically completed. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
