[Class 29] Absorption machines.- In an air-cooled reversing system employing a solid absorbent, the change in volume of a congealable liquid acts on means tc stop the cooling of the generator-absorber when the evaporator temperature is low and the pressure of a liquid heated simultaneously with the generator acts on th( same means to stop the air cooling during the generating period. A damper 5 at the top of a cooling-air shaft 2 of the generator-absorber 1 is actuated through a pinion and rack by a bellows 11 connected through pipes 12 with thermal elements 13, 14 influenced respectively by the temperature of the evaporator brine tank 19 and that of the generator-absorber, so that it is closed to stop absorption and evaporation when a low temperature is reached by the evaporator and also during the generating period. The temperature sensitive medium is preferably a mixture of water or alcohol and glycerine adapted to expand in the element 13 on freezing. The heating of the generatorabsorber is preferably controlled by other thermostatic means in accordance with the temperature of the generator.
