Abstract

502,930. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4370. Convention date, March 16, 1937. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-In a continuous-cycle inert gas system having a generator 10 heated continuously by a source of heat such as an oil burner difficult to control, the refrigerating effect is modified by utilizing a closed cycle heat transfer system 60 . . . 66 to heat a liquefied refrigerant conduit 31 so as to divert some or all of this liquid away from the evaporator 18, 19. The heat transfer system receives heat from the generator at 60 and gives up heat to a seal part of the tube 31 in which liquefied refrigerant accumulates from the condenser 15, 16. This refrigerant is lifted by vapour bubbles into a conduit 53 leading to the absorber 12. A valve 66 in the heat transfer system may be controlled by hand or thermostatically, and this control may be used to stop evaporation for defrosting as well as to modify a cabinet temperature. The flow of the refrigerant to the absorber may be just sufficient to enrich the inert gas stream to stop the gas circulation. The evaporator is provided with baffles 20 to form pools, and includes also a reservoir 40. In a modification, Fig. 2, the heat transfer system supplies heat to a condensed refrigerant conduit 70 to raise the liquefied refrigerant through an inverted U- tube 71 leading to the absorber. The condenser fins have a stay member 73.
