Abstract
880,638. Cooling liquids. ALFA-LAVAL CO. Ltd. June 22, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 21993/59. Class 29. In an ice-bank type of milk cooler, the heat produced by an auxiliary condenser is used to provide a supply of hot water. As shown, a tap is interposed in the existing connection 19 between a compressor 9 and a fan cooled condenser 10 and the auxiliary condenser coil 18 is joined in parallel with the tap. The coil 18 is immersed in an insulated hot water supply tank (Fig. 1, not shown) and takes over the condensation from condenser 10 only so long as the water is not hot. The condensed-refrigerant is collected in vessel 11 and passes through drier and filter unit 12 to expansion valve 13 which is controlled by temperature sensitive element 14. Evaporator 6 is immersed in a cold water supply tank having a water circulating pump 3. The water tank in which coil 18 is immersed may be mounted directly on top of the refrigerating plant or at an elevated position to provide a head of hot water. Alternatively, a closed hot water tank may be supplied from a cold water cistern at a higher level. The hot water tank may have a separate heater for use when the refrigerating plant is not operating.
