Refrigerating, absorption machines for.-Continuous-cycle systems operated solely by heat are provided with means for adjusting the supply of heat and simultaneously the supply of cooling- medium to the rectifier, so that with diminished heat supply the possibility of over-cooling of the rectifier is avoided. The arrangement is particularly adapted to machines containing an inert gas and used for cooling domestic refrigerators in which a variable cooling-effect is desired. The heating means may comprise a series of electrical resistances, one of which is used to give a constant supply of heat to the usual liquor pumping pipe and the others for heating the generator proper to a variable degree. A valve in the cooling-water supply to the rectifier, or louvres in a cooling-air conduit for the rectifier, are connected to a handle controlling the heating- means so that they are opened as soon as the minimum heat supply is turned on, and further opened as the supply is increased. The cooling- water supply to the condenser and other parts of the apparatus is also turned on with the heat supply.
