Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. - The combustion chamber water-tube system of a water-tube boiler fired by finely subdivided fuel consists of front and rear walls E, F of finned tubes 15, 12 side walls G of finned tubes 17, and screens H, I. of spaced tubes 20, 21, at the top and bottom of the chamber. Circulation proceeds from drum 5, through downcomers 22 at each end, to a lower drum 14, and thence upwardly through all the wall water-tubes and the screen tubes H, I, to headers 8, or through headers 19, 18, to the header 11. A modified downcomer connection consists of a number of small diameter pipes. Burner nozzles are placed at the four corners of the chamber to produce violent combustion, air being supplied through a conduit 25 from a heater in the offtake 24, which in a modification is placed directly beneath the drum 5.
