Cylinders, varying clearance in, arrangement of ports and igniters in, construction of and liners for. - The cylinder b of a two-stroke-cycle engine is slidable in an extension a<1> of the crankcase a, ports b<2>, a<2> being provided in the cylinder and extension for the passage of gases. Means for sliding the cylinder comprise shafts c mounted in bearings carried by the extension a<1> and having operating arms c<3> and eccentrics c<2> which engage bearings b<4> on the cylinder. The extension and crank-case are composed of two half portions and a transfer passage a<3> is provided. The cylinder b comprises a liner permanently closed by a head b<1> having a central hole b<3> for the sparking plug. Specification 243,451 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes a four-cylinder engine and means for sliding the cylinders comprising rods attached to the cylinder heads and extending downwardly, where eyes, formed on their lower ends, embrace eccentrics mounted on shafts which can be rotated simultaneously.
