Abstract

252,273. Johnstone, S. Feb. 25, 1925. Planting-machines.-A machine for planting potatoes &c. comprises a shoot down which the potatoes pass, a spring trap-door for holding them in the shoot with one ready for discharge, and a revolving appliance for forcing them one at a time past the trap-door. The machine may have three rectangular shoots 4 into which the potatoes fall from a hopper 1 mounted on travelling wheels 2. In each shoot is a spring trap-door 5 inclined downwardly so as to form the bottom of a wedgeshaped chamber, the lower end of which accommodates a single potato only. Radial arms 7 on a rotary member 6 pass through a slot in the shoot 4 and force the potatoes successivelv past the trap-door 5. The rotary member 6 is driven from the axle 9 by chain gearing. A clutch and change gearing may be provided. The apparatus may be combined with a plough.
