Abstract
500,931. Distributers for seeds. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. (international Harvester Co.) July 2, 1838, No. 19634. [Class 6 (i)] A seed distributer comprises a hopper 1 having a slotted bottom 3 leading to a chamber 20 containing a rotary wheel 6 which delivers the seed to a tube 8. In order to prevent seeds from blocking the upper part of the chamber 20 the hopper 1 is provided with a rotary agitator consisting of arms 11 having resilient extensions 12 which are of sufficient length to pass through the slots in the bottom of the hopper and to extend to a point near the wheel 6. As the arms rotate the extensions become bent against the sides of the hopper and then straighten out as they pass through the slots in the bottom and dislodge any seeds that have packed together in the chamber 20. A separate chamber 20 with a delivery wheel 6 may be provided beneath each slot in the hopper, and a series of arms 11, one for each slot, may be provided on the shaft 10. The extensions 12 may consist of short lengths of rubber tubing or of coiled springs or of flat, blades having collars to fit the arms 11. Alternatively the ends of the arms 11 may be pressed or hammered to form thin resilient blades. The hopper openings may be regulated by sliding plates 9.
