Abstract

702,680. Seed sowers. REILLY, H. L. March 25, 1952 [April 13, 1951 ; Aug. 4, 1951], Nos. 8606/51 and 18502/51. Class 6 (1) A seed sower comprises a hopper 18 communicating by means of a shoot 19 with a seed chamber 20. A conveyer belt 24 driven by a ground wheel 3 is formed with a series of perforations each adapted to receive a seed as the belt moves through the chamber 20. Seeds are retained in the belt by a pivoted support 28 upon which the belt rests and the seeds drop down an opening 38 when they reach the end of the support 28. A rubber covered roller 25 rotates in the opposite direction to the belt and retains seed in the chamber 20. Seeds are also retained in the chamber by means of a flexible member 26 which lightly engages the belt. The seed sowing mechanism forms a unit which is pivotally and removably attached to a frame 2 mounted on a tractor draw-bar 6 and comprises a furrow opening blade 9 and a smoother blade 11. The frame is supported at the rear by a roller 7. The roller 25 may be replaced by an endless belt. A number of seed-sowers may be attached to the tool bar. It is stated in the Provisional Specifications that a mechanical or electrical indicator may be provided to indicate slackness in the conveyer belt 24.
