670,047. Potato-planting and seed-sowing. RICHARDSON, T. D. Oct. 5, 1949 [July 27, 1949], No. 19716/49. Class 6(i) A machine for planting two rows of potatoes simultaneously or sowing two rows of seed simultaneously, at will, comprises a frame 10, adapted to be suspended from tractor lift links and carrying hoppers for fertilizer '17, for potatoes 19, and for seeds 32, furrow-openers 14 and ridging- bodies 25 being mounted adjacent to the outlets of the fertilizer and potato feed tubes 18, 21. The frame 10 comprises parallel tool-bars 11 joined by longitudinals and carries a standard 13 at the front for connection to the upper lift-link. The potatoes are extracted manually from base openings 23 in the longitudinally partitioned potato-hopper 19, and dropped into the tubes 21 by operators seated on the frame. The hopper 19 is detachable from the frame. The fertilizer is fed to the tube 18 by a horizontal star-wheel 35 in the base of the hopper 17. The seed-sowing unit 31 has its own furrow-opening' discs 33 and furrow-closing roller 34 and includes vertical distributing wheels 44 within the hoppers 32 feeding seeds to the seed-tube 32a. The distributers 44 and 35 are driven by belt-drives 47, 38 from a countershaft 40 which is driven from a land-wheel 27 spring-loaded into ground-engagement. The frame 10 rests on rear wheels 26 and a forward wheel 15.
