Abstract
550,979. Potato-planters and fertilizer distributers. TEAGLE, W. T. April 28, 1941, Nos. 5481 and 7020. [Class 6 (i)] A potato-planting machine comprises drill-opening shares 18, a hopper 21 and an endless-chain 23 for delivering seed, blades 19 for partly covering the seed, a hopper 42, and associated mechanism for delivering fertilizer, and drill-closing blades 20. The shares 18 are mounted on a frame 6 adjustable for height with reference to the main frame by coupled linkages 11, 10 and a hand-lever 14. Potatoes from the hopper 21 pass one-by-one into pockets 24 on the chain 25; a tube 23 retains them on their downward movements and a knife-edge 34 reduces sets of excessive size. The belt and tube are inclined to the rear at about 17¢ degrees to the vertical. Skimmers 19 partly replace the soil. The fertilizer hopper has an adjustable outlet with rotary feeders thereat, and inclined agitators within it. Seats 40 for one or more operators are provided.
