Class 6(i) A seed sower of the type comprising front and rear rollers 1, 5 with a seed hopper 9 supported on a framework 2 provided with guiding handles 7 and an attachment 6 for coupling to a horse, is characterized in that the discharge of seed from the hopper is controlled by a shutter valve operated at intervals by a tripping dog 28, adjustably mounted on a shaft 24, which co-operates with one of a series of concentrically arranged projections 19, 20 or 21 on a disc 18 mounted on a transverse shaft 12 driven by cranks 15, 16 and connecting rods 17 from the rear roller 5. The dog 28 is moved by engagement with the pins and opens a slide valve 57 simultaneously with a shutter 39 forming the outlet of a seed tube 38. A rotary agitater 14 is mounted on the shaft 12 and the shutter valve includes two adjustable plates 41, 42 the plate 41 being provided with a series of different sized holes which co-operate with a hole in the plate 42 to vary the effective diameter of the hopper outlet. The plates are adjusted by hand and clamped in position by means of a screw 55. Twin cutters 60 are provided to form a furrow for the seeds. The seed pipe 38 serves as a magazine for seed since the shutter 39 shuts before any particular seed discharge liberated by the shutter will have reached the bottom of the pipe 38.
