Abstract
795,062. Seed sowers. WEBB, Ltd., E. A., and BARKER, R. J. May 11, 1956 [May 11, 1955], No. 13685/55. Class 6(1). A seed sower comprises a wheel 22 provided with pockets 25 which pick up seed from a hopper 15 and deliver it to a rearwardly sloping seed tube 30, the seed being ejected by a pivotally mounted ejector plate 32 which extends into a groove in the periphery of the wheel. Excess seed is wiped off the wheel 22 by means of a rubber tyred deflector wheel 23 driven from a landwheel 12, the wheel 23 being coupled to the wheel 22 by a chain drive. The seed sower is mounted as a unit on a frame 11 and is removable. A coulter 36 is provided together with pivotally mounted covers 37 and a press wheel 13. A number of seed sowers are suspended below a tool-bar bracket 43 by a pair of links 45 and the press wheel 13 is resiliently urged into contact with the ground by means of springs 49. The wheel 22 may be replaced by alternative wheels in which the size of the pockets together with their spacing is varied.
