Abstract
267,298. Richmond, T. G. Feb. 25, 1926. Potato planters.-Relates to machines of the kind described in Specification 13996/04, wherein cups b, on an endless chain or wheel, pass upwardly through a receptacle a, raise potatoes one at a time therefrom, and convey them to a delivery shoot k; and consists in the provision of a second receptacle, through which the cups pass, arranged so that should a cup fail to pick up a potato from the main receptacle it will pick one up from the auxiliary receptacle, to maintain uniformity of planting. The auxiliary receptacle comprises a pair of plates n, n<1> mounted on tapered supports l, l<1> secured on each side of the slot in the extension a<1> of the receptacle a through which the shanks of the cups pass. The plates n, n<1>, with a rubber covered curved arm p, form a hopper-like receptacle which will catch 'discarded doubles raised by the cups. A shield q is secured inside the main receptacle a, to prevent clogging of the chain of cups. Preferably, the cups are of the kind described in Specification 11968/07.
