Abstract

265,675. Strand, H. W. Nov. 9, 1925. Crops, root, digging-machines for- - Tubers and soil are lifted by tines or a share 18<a> at the end of an inclined frame 18 carrying an endless belt conveyer. A roller 19 mounted on adjustable arms 20 compresses the soil to the desired extent. The lifted material is discharged into a rotating coned member 2 where it is broken up by teeth 8. The tubers and soil fall through the coarsely meshed wider end of the member 2 and the haulm passes out of the cone on to tines 21 that may be tipped at intervals by :a hand-lever 34. The tubers and soil fall into a second coned screen 3 through which the soil passes while the tubers are lifted by projections 11 on the end disc 9 of the screen. Openings formed in the disc 9 are covered at the lower part of the screen by a plate 9<a> but by the rotation of the screen the tubers that are lifted by the projections 11 are carried above the plate 9a and pass through the openings in a grading screen 12 falling through shoots 13 into receptacles 14. The inclination of the machine is adapted by a hand-lever 41.
