Potato diggers and harvesters.-A potato raising and harvesting device supported by a main frame 1 carried on a pair of front wheels 2 and a rear wheel 3 comprises an inclined digging share or shares 5 by which the tubers are lifted on to an inclined and shaking elevating band 6 which carries them to shoots at the rear of the machine by which they are delivered to sorting-apparatus, and then into receptacles, or directly on to the ground. The band 6 consists of a series of crossbars connected together by links so as to leave gaps to permit the earth and small stones to fall away from the potatoes. The links form sprocket chains which pass over wheels 13 driven from the axle of the wheels 2. The front sprockets 8 for the band are carried on a shaft mounted in bearings in flexible hangers 16 and, at one or both sides of the machine, the hanger is adapted to be engaged by projections on a wheel driven from the axle of the wheels 2, thus giving a vibratory movement to the band 6. Side rails 22 confine the potatoes to the band and a deflecting-arch 23 prevents the soil falling upon the returning portion of the band. The digging-share 5 may be vertically adjustable. Two drills may be dealt with at the same time.
