Abstract

250,362. Brooks, A. A. Feb. 16, 1925. Locking nuts.-In a lock nut of the kind comprising an outer member a and an inner threaded member e turning with the outer member and tapered or otherwise adapted to move axially within the outer member on tightening the nut, one or more projections c on the outer member are bent over to engage flats or recesses h on the inner member in order to retain it within the outer member. As shown, the members a, e are hexagonal, the inner member having a saw-cut g, and the recesses h are formed by removing corners of the hexagon. In modifications, the inner member is conical and a key on the outer member engages with the saw-cut g or with a keyway on the inner member, or the members may be provided with wedge-shaped keys and keyways.
