Locking nuts and bolts.-A lock-nut comprises two nuts A, B threaded one upon the other, the intervening thread being of greater pitch than that on the bolt c. The surface of the nut A nearest the work d is roughened. To lock the device, the nut B is screwed gently against the surface d and then the nut A untdl the roughened surface engages the work. The nut B is then screwed strongly in the opposite direction. The same principle may be applied to lock a bolt-head, in which case the outer nut is threaded around the head.
