Abstract

1,248,969. Lock washers. C. O. OLDENKOTT. 11 Dec., 1968, No. 58818/68. Heading F2H. A fastener assembly for securing two elements 62, 64 together comprises a bolt or screw B having a threaded shank and a head 50 provided with wrenching flats 52, and a washer A having on one surface a plurality of barbed serrations 12 and on the opposite surface a plurality of radially extending shoulders 20 defined by inclined surfaces 22, such shoulders and surfaces 20, 22 being in engagement with complementary shoulders and surfaces on the head 50 or a nut (F) (Fig. 7, not shown) so that once the assembly has been tightened to grip the elements 62, 64, loosening of the assembly is resisted by the effect of the inclined surfaces 22 and the barbed serrations 12. The outer periphery of the washer is provided with a plurality of flats which are of the same size and number as flats provided on the head 50 or nut (F) so that during tightening, a wrench is able to grip two members of the assembly concurrently.
